08 an hour 1 day ago 1 day ago 1 day ago Job Description Under general supervision, the Detention Service Specialist (DSS) is primarily responsibile to insure quality of work product, and the protection of the rights of prisoners and adherence to principles of Police Department Organizational values.
Job Responsibilities 1.
Responsible for recurring reports and records and assembling information from various sources.
2.
Processes papers on prisoners entering and being released from jail.
3.
Escorts prisoners to and from booking area.
4.
Assigns prisoners to jail cells.
5.
Maintains records of prisoner cell assignment and charges.
6.
Types jail records including physical description of prisoners and personal property.
7.
Fingerprints and photographs prisoners.
8.
Serves meals to prisoners.
9.
Enforces established security and order standards in jail.
10.
Issues blankets and toilet articles to prisoners.
11.
Escorts prisoners to and from court.
12.
Releases prisoners for interviews with law enforcement officials and other authorized individuals.
13.
Relates information about prisoners to police investigators as requested.
14.
Secures and maintains prisoner's personal property.
15.
Obtains prisoner's signature on property release forms.
16.
Patrols jail cells to check on prisoners.
17.
Dispenses prescribed medications to prisoners.
18.
Searches prisoners and property for drugs, weapons and stolen articles.
19.
Transports prisoners to county jail.
20.
Performs any assignment as assigned or directed by a Supervisor.
21.
Must pass Jailer Certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum Requirements - 1.
Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent.
2.
Job requires a valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
3.
Job requires the ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish.
4.
Job requires the ability to properly and efficiently use telephone, typewriter, camera, TV monitor, vehicle (van), panic pager, fingerprint equipment (ink and roller), police radio, handcuffs, and other restraint devices.
