Open Until Filled Job Description Under general direction, the Heavy Equipment Operator I operates and maintains heavy and light equipment to include various paving equipment and tractor mowers.
The employee works under moderate direction from his/her Crew Leader A or Supervisor.
The employee has no supervisory responsibilities of personnel and must abide by all safety rules and operational policies and procedures.
The employees perform all other duties as needed or required.
Job Responsibilities 1.
Operates light and heavy duty equipment.
2.
Performs preventive maintenance on the equipment.
3.
Maintains a record of the equipment operations.
4.
Maintains a Daily Activity Report to include opening and closing work orders.
5.
Employee receives occasional input from the HEO III responsible for the project.
6.
Assists other personnel in the department whenever necessary.
7.
Follows all safety rules and regulations.
8.
Performs other job related duties as assigned or necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum Requirements:
1.
An accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
2.
Job requires one (1) year of related work experience.
3.
Job requires a valid Texas Driver License Class C.
4.
Position will require obtainment of an Herbicide Applicators State License within 12 months of employment.
5.
Must have a general knowledge of road maintenance/ construction and/or storm water infrastructure maintenance.
6.
Must have ability to communicate (read/write) in English; bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
7.
Must be able to manage time efficiently with self-initiative.
Physical Requirements 1.
Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
2.
Work involves operating a piece of equipment, normally from a sitting position, as well as frequent physical labor.
Additional Information 1.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
2.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
3.
Job requires working evenings, weekends, holidays and during hurricane or other emergencies, when needed.
4.
Required to be on stand-by (on call waiting to be engaged to work) as assigned when necessary.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
