Posting Details General Statement of Job General Statement of Job The Accounting Assistant applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by using various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble and/or format data and/or reports, in addition to other related dutiesSpecific Duties and Responsibilities Specific Duties and Responsibilities Records, classifies, and summarizes accounting transactionsCompiles various documents, verifies their accuracy, and authorizes payments in accordance with established proceduresAssembles documents for computer input, verifying accuracy of itemized charges, account numbers, and total costsSelects correct accounts, posts, verifies, balances, prepares and posts journal entriesReconciles accounts and assists in the compilation of reportsApplies a working knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agenciesMaintains records through filing, retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, coding, updating, and purgingResponds to inquiries; checks accounting transactions to locate and resolve discrepanciesProvides accounting services to faculty, staff, students, and individuals or organizations outside of the college, such as government agencies and banksUses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reportsResponsible and accountable for all tasks and responsibilities assignedInvestigates discrepancies and resolves questions and issues related to assigned accounting functionCommunicates with vendors, students and employees through email and phoneAssists and cross trains between related positions within departmentPerforms other duties as assignedPosition Information Posting Number SP2476 Position Title Accounting Assistant Department FAS-Business Office Temporary End Date (if applicable)Location Pecan E-Class Classified FLSA Non-Exempt Min Salary $33,800 Salary Range Required Education and Experience Associate's Degree or a minimum of 60 college hours; Bachelor's Degree preferredAt least one (1) year of accounting experience, preferredExperience in a higher education institution, preferredRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skillsStrong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skillsKnowledge of accounting practices and principles in order to work with limited supervisionFamiliarity with business practices and willingness to become familiar with departmental goals and some familiarity of other departments within the college divisionAbility to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlinesAbility to work independently as well as a team player within department and with othersAbility to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportationDemonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas CollegeAbility to read and interpret business related documents and procedure manualsAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceAbility to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formAbility to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situationsChecks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Security Sensitive position:
