Medical Technician

Primary duties include reception of patients, performing positive patient identification procedures, verifying test orders in VISTA, organizing patient workflow based on patient need, and processing orders correctly. The medical technician will perform venipuncture on both inpatient and outpatients utilizing age and gender specific skills to the young adult, the adult and geriatric patient. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Carefully review past and future appointments to ensure all orders are processed. Performs positive patient identification, utilizing VISTA, CPRS data. Generate barcode labels for patient identification of specimens to be collected. Performs venipuncture according to well documented guidelines and protocols with minimal discomfort to the patient. Accurately accessions specimens into VISTA and is the primary source of determining the acceptability, integrity, proper labeling, and volume of specimens for testing. Distributes specimens to the proper laboratory sections, as deemed appropriate. Contact and dialogue with clinicians regarding test orders, may be required to ensure specimens are correctly received (accessioned) and processed in the laboratory. Prepares specimens for shipment to reference labs, this includes complex processing steps (log out of specimens and logging in of results, proper order forms, etc.) Perform research of test and specimen requirement may be required to determine specimen integrity and acceptability. Performs miscellaneous duties, such as:
obtaining laboratory results from the computer system, delivering specimens to other laboratory areas, stocking of supplies, eyewash quality control, temperature monitoring and other duties. Work Schedule:

Specialized
Experience:
You must posses 6 months of general experience AND 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. General Experience is defined as:
(l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized Experience is defined as:
experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
(a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings OR (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for GS-3; OR (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond post-high school education and experience. Note:
If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

The Medical Technician position will require light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), use of fingers, walking (3 hours), standing (4 hours), repeated bending (3 hours). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
